Understanding song lyrics

In Literacy we have been learning about song lyrics. we listened to one song. they were by  Ben E King and the song is called stand by me. we then looked at the lyrics and what they meant. the song is about someone being afraid of the dark but it's ok good my darling I was beside them

this week in health we are learning about personal hygien. we needed to make a decision if we were going to make a comic or a animation I found it challenging to use the triangles and squares and other objects to make the pictures but it was easy to say how to wash your body.

This week in writing we have been learning to make out writing interesting. I found it challenging to come up with wow words to make my writing  interesting but it was easy to  make my sentence interesting.

Winnebagose

On Saturday me and mum went to her mum's friends birthday party we

went to Winnebagose.

First we got into the car at 6 o’clock with Debbie and we went to

the one and Winnebagose in Christchurch. When we got there

I got a raspbian coke and my

mum got a wine. After a while we ordered our dinner it an hour

for them to bring it out of the

kitchen. I got a delicious carbonara pasta when it came

out looks like the king pasta. After we had dinner I so our

waitress smashed a plate with a pizza on it it would have

been so embarrassing for that waitress. I could hear everybody

talking about the smashed plate afterwards. Then the waitress

come over and we got a dessert pizza and a coke the dessert

pizza had bananas with chocolate over top of it and 4 scoops of

ice cream. After that we went home and watch the Warriors play.

It was a great night at Winnebagose because I loved the food.

Questioing

In reading we are learing to be good readers. To be a good reader you ask Questions before, during and after you read something we are learning to ask different types of questions . they are answer can be found in the text. this week we looked at a photo. As a group we sat on the mat and we did questioning. In our groups we wrote quetions about the photo. were escaping or running from something next we brainstormed what they could be running from thought they were running from a war
after that we made a sarival kit.

Today we listened to audio books my story was about war. I learnt that in the war the black legs go on a rampage. I enjoyed this story book because people died and it reminds me of my favorite game. The audio books help me to understand the story and the words I don't know.

Today we looked at how our peer interactions influence our reading. We read Sophia's Big Wedding with a buddy and we used a sticky note to write down the words we were unsure of. On my sticky note I wrote: sophia, greece, Eleni, arrived, Emmanue, Katerina, and cheerfully .I found this experience fun because I got to read with a buddy and my buddy helped me to figure out the words I did not know.

Today we wrapped up our sessions with Miss Goslin. We finished our flip/comic books that we had based off an audio book that we had read earlier in the sessions. We also discussed what we enjoyed the most in the sessions and how this helped our reading. 

My favourite activity was the audio book because it was fun and made words I did not know know.

Fizz, Pop, Froth

In Science we are learning about change. When we mix or combine two different reactants substances together. When this happens a chemical reaction takes place.

Art

This week in art we have been colouring in a season tree. We use pastel crayons and toothpicks. we use pencil colouring in because it is nice and thick when you put it on the paper. It has to be thick on the piece of paper so you can sketch designs onto the paper with the toothpick. I found it e asy to colour it all in I found it challenging to used a toothpick.

visual arts

The last couple weeks I have been learning about
visual arts.In visual arts we had to design a tattoo i design my tattoo of a fish up with AT on it and AT stands for Aiden and Toby. We had to watch lots of videos to see what they put on the tattoos and designs. I found it challenging to think of a design but it was easy once I thought of one.

Hangi day

On Thursday after school some men came to our school to dig a Hangi pit
Early on Friday morning they returned to light the fire .By the time i got to school the fire was roaring and smoke was billowing out 
WE got to look at the fire and it was explained to us that the wood+iron had to be white hot.
Later we went back and they wet the fire and put wet cabbage leaves in to create steam.
WE watched them lower the food in. There were 3 big baskets they put on more wet cabbage leaves and wet sacks. Covered  it with a tarpaulins and covered with dirt to keep steam in.3 hours later we finally got to eat it. I thought the food was disgusting

In Reading I have been learning haw to predict. I use my prior knowledge and clues from the picture or text to predict I had to use my prior knowledge about being alone in the forest and clues from the picture to predict what what would happen next

Today in writing we had to write a slam poem and we got to pick what we were going writing about. I picked gaming. First we had to plan on a piece of paper and then we put it onto the computer.I found it challenging to come up with sentences to relate to gaming, but it was easy once I managed to come up with a couple of sentences. .

Camping Trip

“I guess this is what the wilderness feels like.” John said to himself. Standing there in the woods, he couldn’t believe he had agreed to go on a camping trip with his cousins. He’d always been scared of new experiences. John noticed that his cousins were unpacking the camping gear while his Uncle Jim was setting up the tent. Suddenly, John felt a little bad about not helping. “Hey, Uncle Jim, what can I do to help?” he asked, trying to sound confident. “Why don’t you gather some firewood?”Uncle Jim answered. “Um, sure” John replied. “Where do they keep it?” Uncle Jim gave John a curious look. “We are in the woods John, just look around for some clean and dry wood.”

ANZAC Biscuits

today we make ANZAC biscuits there are made of sugar,flour, rolled oats, golden syrup, butter - no eggs so they do not go off. they were put in the recipie  book in 1921.

Mum ,wives and children made the biscuits. Some were sent to soldiers and most of them were sold at fetes to raise money for the war.

they raised 6.5 million pounds for the nz war effort.

Spencer Park

Last week we went to Spencer Park for a school trip. At Spencer Park we got put in groups of 5 and we were given a challenge to make an object using 3D shapes. My group chose to try and make a Kings chair but it turned into a lazy boy. The teachers voted on all of our creations and they decided who won but sadly my group did not win but we still had a good time making it.
